Outfield: Become the Best Outfielder with this Drill
In this video we are going to talk about how to catch or receive the baseball. There are baseballs that are thrown, above our waist, above our head, and below our waist. We are going to talk about what the glove positioning should look like on all three of those different batted balls, or thrown balls.
So, the first one is the ball that is above our waist. We want to make sure our fingers are going to the sky. We are going to catch the ball, the ball will go into our glove. I'm going to go, pinky to pinky,, thumb to thumb, I'm going to catch and I'm going to cover. All balls that are in between our shoulders and centered, we want to make sure we always use two hands. Balls to the outsides we use one hand, balls centered, we want to use two hands.
Balls that are below our waist, like ground balls or balls that are bouncing; we want to catch the ball with our fingers facing down in this position. We will then catch the ball and cover the ball. We always want to cover the ball because it allows us to get the ball out of our glove and transfer must faster to be able to make an out ant any of the bases.
So, a ball below our waist, my fingers are down; a ball above my waist, my fingers are up; and a ball over my head, my fingers are up as well.
So that is how we want to receive or catch the baseball.
