Zoned Sports Academy has teamed up with BaseballDonations.com to continue efforts to help underprivileged baseball and softball players in Central America. BaseballDonations.com is an organization established in 2009 based around collecting old or used equipment to give to players in Central America who don't have the appropriate equipment necessary to succeed and play the games of baseball and softball. This 5013-C charity organization was created by Brendan Lowery, his father and their family out of Randolph New Jersey as a part of a high school project centered around helping kids. Brendan spoke about why he started this organization, stating, "There is a bigger goal in mind than just getting rid of old equipment, "Lowery continued, "We want to be able to give kids the same opportunities in baseball that we had growing up in places where that opportunity is difficult to obtain."
Since the start of Baseball Donations in 2009, the Lowery family, with help from various people and organizations in Central New Jersey, have collected thousands of pieces of equipment including bats, gloves, cleats, helmets, batting gloves, catching gear, bags and more. In 6 years, Baseball Donations has grown from less than a hundred pieces of equipment to 6 full pallets of gear. Brendan Lowery speaks about the experience going to the Dominican Republic and being able to make kids dreams come true, "The kids are ecstatic about what we are bringing to give them. You see their faces light up the minute we begin passing out equipment, it's one of the best feeling to see."
Last year alone, Baseball Donations was able to collect over 500 pieces of equipment for players in the Dominican Republic. Recently, Baseball Donations is taking their organization to the next level teaming up with MLB players to help grow their name and the mission for their company. Such players as the Mets Bartolo Colon, Yankees Dellin Betances, White Sox Emilio Bonifacio and the Cubs Joel Peralta have joined in going to the Dominican Republic and helping give out equipment to the local little league players.
Zoned Owner and CEO Duke Baxter spoke about the opportunity to team up with Baseball Donations saying, "Zoned and it's families are excited to be able to team up with an organization that is looking to spread the excitement of this great game to players that have the same passion and will now be able to continue their play with the proper equipment."
If you are interested in making a donation to this great organization please stop by Zoned Sports Academy between 10:00AM and 9:00PM, 7 days a week and drop the equipment off in our BaseballDonations.com drop box located next to the vending machines.
