The Raritan Valley Community College Lions will look to continue to take steps forward this season under 2nd year Head Coach Andrew Romanella. In 2015, the Lions finished with a record of 5-22 eclipsing the previous season win total of 3. The season was highlighted by a 2 game sweep of Region 19 finalist County College of Morris and a win against Middlesex Community College on the last day of the season to knock them from playoff contention.
Playing in one of the toughest Junior College regions in the country, RV will look to continue to improve as a program hoping to eclipse the double digit win mark for the first time in nearly 10 years. Previewing the upcoming season, Coach Andrew Romanella spoke about his expectations for the team stating, "Anytime you have a young team you don't know exactly what to expect," Romanella continued, "We had a great fall getting better individually and as a unit but have to keep that going through the winter. As long as we battle for 7 or 9 innings, support our teammates and play with more heart than any opponent, we can do something special."
The Lions will be led by sophomore captains Mike Dolan and CJ Lyons. Dolan was the everyday backstop for RVCC last season catching every inning of all 27 games on the schedule. Mike finishhed the year 2nd on the team in average at .309, 2nd in doubles with 5 and 3rd in RBI with 10. Lyons, the team's everyday shortstop going into the spring, finished the year hitting .277 with 6 doubles, 7 RBI and 8 BB at the top of the'Lion's lineup.
RVCC will also return their ace Billy Larkin who led the pitching staff in wins, games started, innings pitched and strike outs. Other key performers that will look to help RVCC build off of last season are sophomores Eric Drzewiecki, Joe Mastrobattista and Jimmy DuHamel.
