The Zoned Redhawks Elite continued USABL this play this weekend with four games between the three teams. The 14U Redhawks Red lost a heartbreaker to the NJ Shamrocks, falling 5-2 after fighting back to load the bases in the bottom of the 7th.
The 14U Black team jumped out to an early lead in their game against the Hillsborough Gold and never looked back en route to a dominating 9-0 victory, scoring runs in five of the six innings. Cole Chirichello had a phenomenal day on the mound, holding the Gold scoreless while giving up only one base hit to go along with three strikeouts. Closer Jeff Praml pitched a perfect seventh to close out the shutout. Offensively, the Redhawks had a very balanced day at the plate. Kevin Reyes led the charge going 3-4 with three runs scored 2 RBI's. Singles by Brandon Jennings and Nolan Ledger got the Redhawks on the board in the 1st. In the second, a single by Reyes, sacrifice bunt by Justin Procopio, and two errors put the Redhawks ahead 3-0. RBI's by Chirichello, Procopio, Brandon Warick, and Troy Sweeney in the 4th and 5th innings put the game out of reach, giving the Redhawks a 9-0 victory and a perfect 5-0 record in USABL play.
The 13U squad played a pair on Sunday. Tommy Denlinger and Jack Erbeck were on the mound for the Redhawks, keeping the game close with two solid pitching performances. Dylan Donohue led the Redhawks offensively, going 4-4 with 2 RBI's, including the game winning hit in the bottom of the 7th. The Redhawks hung on for the 5-4 win. In the second game of the twin bill, the bats came alive for the 13U to the tune of 19 hits to go along with 8 walks. Donohue, David Lavy, and Dean Severini combined for the win on the mound, leading the Redhawks to a 15-4 victory. Donohue had a tremendous day, going 6-8 with two doubles, 4 RBI's, a game winning hit, and two solid innings pitched. Also contributing big days were Kyle Wierzbicki, going 6-7, and Nick Diaz, who went 5-10 with three triples and an RBI. The 13U Squad sits at 6-2 on the season.
As the USABL season begins to wind down, the Redhawks hope to keep the momentum going into the playoffs. And with a full summer season of tournament baseball ahead of them, they still have some of their best baseball ahead of them.
