May 12th RedHawks Recap + Players of the Week

As the USABL season begins to wind down, the Zoned Redhawks are looking to keep the momentum going as they get set to begin tournament play on Memorial Day Weekend. This past Sunday, both 14U teams did just that. The Black team continued their winning ways with a 9-3 victory over the Union County Seminoles. Jeff Praml was phenomenal on the bump, scattering three hits over 6 2/3 innings while striking out 12 batters. On the offensive side of the ball, Cole Chirichello and Kevin Reyes got the Redhawks on the board with RBI singles in the bottom of the first. The Seminoles rallied back to tie the score 3-3 in the third inning, but that was all the offense they generate on the day. Starting pitcher Praml notched two more RBI singles and starting shortstop Justin Procopio added a 2-RBI double to put the Redhawks out in front for good.

The 14U Red also pulled out a solid victory over the Central Jersey Stampede in Union, N.J. on Sunday. The game remained scoreless until the 5th inning, when Noah Jordan got the scoring started for the Redhawks with a 2-RBI double. The Redhawks added one more in the 5th to jump out to a 3-0 lead. The Stampede was able to plate two runs in the 6th to close the lead, but James Crowley came on in relief to shut the door on the Stampede and secure the 3-2 win for the Redhawks.

The 13U team lost a tough one on Sunday, falling 5-4 to Out Of The Park in n wild 11-inning game. Patrick Henry, Dylan Donohue, and Kyle Wierzbicki did a solid job on the mound keeping the Redhawks close, but they weren't able to string together enough hits to pull out the victory.

Heading into the home stretch of the USABL season, the 14U Black team sits in first place in their division, with the 14U Red team in third place, three games back. The 13U team also sits in third, but in a favorable position heading into the playoffs. All of the teams will be in action this weekend, with the 13U squad playing close to home in the Bridgewater Memorial Day Tournament. The 14U teams will travel over the bridge to Staten Island for the Richmond County Memorial Day USA Blast.
