For over 22 years the Somerville Elks Lodge 1068 has run a charity softball game to raise money and awareness for Jack's Kids, a 501c3 organization dedicated to helping kids and their families with expenses and issues related to childhood illness and disabilities. This year, Zoned Sports Academy in Bridgewater, NJ, along with Coach Chris Eickhorst and six players from the Zoned Redhawk travel teams joined the cause and raised $500 dollars to Jack's Kids. The players ran speed pitch, plate break and bat speed competitions along with other contests throughout the day to help raise awareness and reach their goal.
Chris, who has been helping with this charity personally for over 10 years now, spoke about the event and how important it is too him. "I began helping with Jack's Kids a while back because of a family friend close to me that passed. He has five kids. We wanted to do anything we could to help with expenses and we haven't stopped since. The opportunity to give back to the community and donate your time to those in need gives you a different perspective on life and the things that are important."
Chris also spoke about the importance of having baseball players from Zoned Sports Academy help with the event, "It is an eye opening experience for those guys," Coach Chris said. "It helps teach them at a young age about certain difficulties others are facing in life and how just a little bit of time can go a long way when helping someone in need."
Zoned Sports Academy, Chris Eickhorst and the Zoned players were honored to help at such a great event and look forward to more years of helping with this great foundation. To learn more about this great cause or to learn how to donate visit jackskids.org and remember, “it's all about the kids.”
