Billy Price is entering his junior season at the Delbarton School in Morristown, NJ where he will be returning to compete for a top spot in the rotation for the 2017 season. Billy is currently committed to further is education and baseball career at the University of Virginia beginning in the fall of 2018. Last year as a sophomore for the Green Wave, Price finished the year with a 1-2 record, 4.0 era and 10 strikeouts. Coach Romanella sat down with Billy to discuss his time at Delbarton, committing to U of Virginia and how Zoned Sports has helped him reach the next level.
Andrew Romanella: You are only entering your Junior season but explain how your experience has been at the Delbarton School?
Billy Price: So far my first 2 years at Delbarton have been great. I have learned a lot playing for Coach Statel and learned a lot under his guidance and I am excited to see what the next two years have in store for me and the program.
AR: Is there anything specific from your high school career that stands out? Whether that be achievements, other sports, specific coaches, etc.?
BP: Something that stands out to me is the opportunity to compete for a county title and state title every year. Delbarton is a great program with an opportunity to go all the way each year and I’d love to be a part of a title run.
AR: You are committed to the University of Virginia, where did they first get the chance to see you play?
BP: While I was playing for my travel team this past summer in Georgia. The coaching staff came out to see me throw and the rest went from there.
AR: What stood out about Virginia? And what are you most excited about in terms of playing at the next level?
BP: Virginia has been my dream school for my entire life and is a great combination of high level baseball and academics. Being that UVA has a great history of winning, including their recent CWS title, I am excited to get their and help the program compete for another run to Omaha.
AR: When did you first begin training at Zoned? And how has Zoned Sports help you get to the level you are at now?
BP: I begin at Zoned the summer after my freshmen year of high school and have continued here since. Coach Chris Eickhorst has been a huge help for me teaching a lot about the mental and physical side of the game, making me a better pitcher overall.
AR: To finish, talk about the person in your life who has been the biggest influence on you as a person and player to help you reach this stage in your career?
BP: My older brother has probably been the biggest influence in my life up until this point. He has always kept me focused and pushed me to help me achieve my goals and become the best player I can possibly be.
